Blackfriars Bridge and the OXO Tower
London Bridge Vector Graphic Collection
A beautiful wrought iron arch bridge, the Art Deco OXO tower and thanks to the curvy Thames – a glipse of the Eye peaking through.
Missing from my illustration, but next time you are in the area of Blackfriars take a look for the stone carvings of birds on the piers of this bridge. On the East (downstream) side the carvings show marine life and seabirds; those on the West (upstream) show freshwater birds.
These stone birds were created by the sculptor John Birnie Philip and reflect the role of Blackfriars as the tidal turning point.
